- Planning the 2018 trip
I woke up feeling a little delicate after last night’s celebrations, so my first mission of the day was simple: coffee and breakfast. With no concrete plans for Ed’s final day, we decided to keep things relaxed. Yesterday’s car adventures didn’t lead us to the beach, so today we made up for it by hopping on a bus from Naxos Town to Agia Anna on the west coast, aiming to explore the beautiful stretch of Plaka Beach. Before heading out, Ed checked out of his room and stashed his bag in mine—no one wants to lug luggage to the beach!
The bus dropped us at the beach’s northern end, and we set off on a leisurely walk towards the quieter area near Mischa Beach Bar. With the sun shining down, we grabbed a drink and a pastry, snagged a couple of sunbeds, and settled in for a few hours of pure relaxation. Ed was out like a light almost instantly, while I, unable to nap, took a dip in the crystal-clear sea. The water was perfect—refreshing and serene.
By 1:30 pm, we caught the bus back to Naxos Town. Once at my room, Ed freshened up, changed, and grabbed his things. With a few hours to spare before his 4:40 pm ferry, we headed to a café by the harbor, soaking up the atmosphere with a couple of drinks while the ferry loomed in the distance.
Saying goodbye, I waved Ed off and watched the ferry disappear over the horizon. Back at the hotel, I spent a quiet afternoon transferring the treasure trove of photos and videos from the past few days onto my laptop—double-backed them to an external drive too, because you can’t be too careful! As I started jotting down notes for this blog, I realized just how much I didn’t want to forget a single detail of this trip.
Still feeling a bit off from the night before, I skipped a big dinner and treated myself to a scoop (or two) of ice cream from Milkato, just a short stroll from the hotel. With time to kill before bed, I decided it was the perfect chance to grab my drone and chase the sunset. I wandered to the southern tip of St. George’s Beach, where the fading light made for a bit of a challenge with my Mavic Air’s ND filters, but the results were worth it. The golden glow of the horizon felt like the perfect way to end the day.
As the sun dipped below the sea, I packed up my gear and headed back to the hotel, ready for an early night and whatever tomorrow might bring.
