Date of Visit: July 2022
Introduction
For my first visit to Astypalea, I wanted somewhere with a good central location that didn’t break my budget. Viva Mare seemed to tick those boxes, being situated close to the port in Pera Gialos and costing a very reasonable €45 per night (room only) in July.
Location
Just a 5-minute walk from the port, the location is excellent for those arriving by ferry. The island does have an airport, so if you decide to fly then there are probably better places to base yourself. The apartments are located at the lower end of a fairly steep road that leads away from the port towards the back of the village.
Being very central, there are plenty of amenities nearby: a rental shop opposite, a mini-market at the bottom of the hill and plenty of tavernas and cafes all around the port and behind the small town beach.
Rooms and Facilities
The studio apartment itself was spacious and clean, with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.
On arrival, I’d been left a small basket of supplies including some local red wine, plus bread, water, juice and preserves.
The decor was comfortable and basic rather than luxurious, but for the money, it was exactly as I expected.
Summary
I was very pleased with my stay at Viva Mare and wouldn’t hesitate to return if I visit Astypalea again in the future.
