Arriving on a fairly late flight into Santorini, we needed a place to stay overnight that was convenient and affordable, yet still pleasant enough to make a good start to our holiday. Koronios Villa fit the bill perfectly.
Its location on the outskirts of Fira made it a short minibus ride from the airport – arranged through the hotel for a reasonable €10 each. The journey took about 15 minutes. Having informed the owner of our late arrival, they were kind enough to leave our room unlocked with the key inside and emailed me instructions on which room was ours and how to find it.
The room was fairly basic, though not unusually so for Greek standards. It seemed well-kept and clean, with the usual amenities. The bed was comfortable enough that we slept almost immediately.
The next morning, we woke at 8 and went straight to breakfast. The selection was reasonable, though nothing special. We had tea, coffee and some cereal and toast. Enough to fuel us to lunchtime anyway.
Sadly, our first day was a bit overcast, but wanting to make the most of our booking, we sat out by the pool and ‘sunbathed’ as best we could. The pool was quite nice and refreshing for a quick dip.
After collecting our belongings from the room, we checked out at reception and paid our bill, then walked into Fira and onto our next hotel in Firostefani.
Overall, it’s a basic but pleasant hotel and, given its proximity to Fira, makes an ideal low-cost base from which to explore Santorini.
