Monday 4th July 2022
Early Gym Session
I woke up before my alarm at 7, having gone to bed pretty early last night. I made up another yoghurt with honey and walnuts for breakfast in my room, then had some water and orange juice. I didn’t have a kettle in my room and hadn’t bought another cold coffee either so I took a detour on the way to the gym via Ragoussis bakery and picked up a freddo espresso to give my workout a bit of a boost. The gym was fairly quiet and I had a good back workout, it felt good to be training again and I was still a bit sore from Saturday’s session too.
I got back to the hotel just after 10, had a shower and decided to visit the town beach in Parikia for a few hours. Having done quite a lot of sightseeing last week with Caroline, I don’t expect these next few days will be that exciting to read as I’ve got work commitments and also a budget to stick to as well.
Beach Bound
I got my beach gear together and headed north from the hotel towards Livadi beach, but decided to continue past it to the main Parikia beach instead. It seemed quite busy though, so being the fickle person I am, I turned around and ended up back at Livadi beach. The sunbathing was fine, but on trying to get into the water, I realised how rocky it is there. Worse still, on getting back out of the sea I noticed several black sea urchins lurking on several rocks! It was at that point I made a decision not to come back to this beach again!!
Wanting a fairly cheap lunch, I walked north again and stopped at Onar cafe, where Caroline and I had eaten on the day we walked around to Krios/Marcello beach. I had a Sprite (resisting the call of a cold beer) and a club sandwich, which was tasty.
Work Time
With my sand, sea and sustenance need satisfied, it was time to go back to the hotel and work for a bit. I had a call with Michael, my friend and work colleague, for nearly an hour and then spent another couple of hours completing some work tasks on my laptop.
Gym…Again
Being the slightly crazy exercise fanatic that I am, I decided to go back to the gym again for another workout before dinner. I arrived just before 6 and had a reasonable leg workout, though it’s not my favourite thing to train. I did decide that I prefer training in the evening, though, so tomorrow I’ll probably skip the morning session and come down around the same time as this again.
Easy Dinner
As I was arriving back at the hotel from the gym, I decided to check out the food menu at their restaurant and spotted a nice chicken dish. I went back to my room for a shower and to get changed, then took the convenient option of eating at the hotel rather than walking around to find a new restaurant to try. The chicken dish was really good and with a beer, it cost €15.50 so it was quite a cheap meal compared to what I’d been spending over the past week.
