Plakotos Beach
There are two beaches on the north coast of Ios which share the name Plakotos. The first and easternmost is a small, mostly sandy beach. When we visited in August 2022, the shoreline was heavily dominated by seaweed but this may not always be the case.
The beach is easily accessible from Homer’s Tomb by taking the short dirt road, the turning for which is just before the parking area for the tomb.
The second and larger Plakotos beach is a few minutes further west along the same dirt road. The beach here is much wider and the sea is free of seaweed, but the beach itself is mostly coarse stones with a few sandy patches. As the wind is often from the north, both beaches are prone to being wavy and so are less ideal for swimming.
