Mylopotas Beach
Mylopotas is the main beach resort on Ios. A very large, wide and sandy beach, it is located just south of Chora approximately 15 minutes by bus from the port.
Situated in a large southwest-facing bay, the sea is clear with some large but mostly flat and smooth rocks along parts of the shoreline. The video below gives a good indication of what the beach is like:
The sea shelves fairly quickly into moderately deep water, making it ideal for water sports but less so for young children or those less able to swim confidently when out of their depth. Often calm, it can get wavy at times if the wind blows onshore.
The beach is developed with sunbeds and umbrellas at both the north and south ends, but with an undeveloped centre section and ample space to set up your own towel/umbrella. Free volleyball nets are located towards the south end along with a watersports centre. The beach is lifeguarded.
There are several tavernas in close proximity, mostly towards the northern end, plus a nice mobile food and drinks van, Rollin’ Nomad, serving healthy snacks and smoothies, plus coffee. At the southern end, Far Out Beach Club and Village offer upbeat music during the day and parties in the evenings often featuring some well-known and up-and-coming guest DJs.
In high season, there is a very regular bus service (every 15-20 minutes) between Chora, the port and Mylopotas, with stops at each end of the beach and in the middle.
