My friend and I had initially planned to stay at Andros Holiday Hotel in Gavrio, but due to COVID-19, they chose not to open this season and instead relocated us to their sister hotel, the Mare Vista in Batsi. That said, Batsi is a good location, being slightly more central and having a reasonable selection of restaurants.
Check-in was fast, and they were nice enough to give me a room adjacent to my friend’s even though we had booked separately. The vast room was a studio with a lounge, kitchen area, large balcony and bedroom. The decor, both in the rooms and communal areas, is a bit dated, though, and I would say it could do with a bit of renovation.
Location-wise, to drive to the hotel, you must go past it, down a hill and then up a pretty steep road to get to the car park underneath the hotel. It’s set on a hillside, so there are a few places where you have to go up or down steps to get about, particularly if you want to walk into Batsi on an evening.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and the staff really were great. Breakfast was decent, and they had a pool table, which came in handy one morning when it was raining. The pool is okay, though due to its location, it does get shaded by the hotel late afternoon, so it doesn’t make for ideal sunbathing and seems like a bit of a design flaw to me.
