Hotel Landeris, Katapola, Amorgos

In a similar vein to my stay on Amorgos last year at Filoxenia Hotel, I was only on Amorgos for one night in order to switch ferries and get from Kos to my next destination, Ios. Again, I booked rather later than I should have and paid a fair premium for the privilege (€89.50). On the plus side, however, I didn’t have to bus across the island to Aegiali simply to sleep one night and bus back again the following day, managing to secure lodgings at Hotel Landeris in Katapola, just a short walk from the port itself.

The hotel is a little awkward to find, even knowing its location on Google Maps: it’s down a narrow side street on the right-hand side as you walk away from the port.

Walking down the street, there’s no obvious signage for the hotel until you reach the door itself, which has a fairly discreet sign directly above it:

Inside, the reception was fairly gloomy and unmanned when I first arrived. Unsure of how to check in, I was about to call them when a man arrived, followed shortly after by a lady who must’ve been the manager. She gave me a warm welcome and explained that they also run the nearby Minoa Hotel and that’s where she is usually based.

I was shown upstairs to an upgraded room and given all the necessary information such as WiFi details etc. The room itself was as expected, plain and traditional, but clean and fairly spacious with a small balcony overlooking the street I’d just walked down.

You can see the ferry that I just arrived on which hadn’t even left by the time I’d checked in, so the location really is very convenient for a short stay if you’re arriving/departing from Katapola.

There’s not much more to say really. The room rate was still on the expensive side, but Amorgos is an increasingly popular destination and in peak season accommodation is at a premium, so prices are reflective of the demand. I expect if you book early it would be a lot cheaper.
