The Adventure is Almost Beginning
Today is our last full day in Palaiochora: tomorrow morning I’ll drive my parents back to the airport and really get started on my Greek adventure. I’ll be heading east across Crete before taking a ferry to my next island, but no spoilers you’ll have to keep reading to find out!
We had our usual breakfast at the hotel (by this point the lady who serves us knew exactly what food we each had off by heart), then meandered down to the main town beach where we spent the morning sunbathing and swimming. At lunch, we went to the usual snack bar and had club sandwiches and beers.
Covid Tests for Two
Before they can fly home, my parents need to prove a negative Covid-19 test. This had been booked with a pharmacist in Palaiochora a few days prior and would take place this afternoon at 6pm. We left the beach around the usual time (3 pm) and went back to the hotel.
While Mum and Dad went for their test, I stayed at the hotel and walked down to meet them a short while later – the test itself only takes a couple of minutes, but the results take 15-20 minutes so there was no point all three of us hanging around waiting.
Back to our Favourite Restaurant
It’s tradition on all my holidays (and I guess for a lot of people it’s the same) to have your last evening meal at the favourite restaurant of the trip, to make sure it finishes on a high. Although we’ve eaten some lovely meals at several different tavernas, the standout favourite was Cape Crocodile.
This time, I had the same onion ring starter, but followed by a huge rack of barbecue pork ribs which were amazing. The dessert was a chocolate tart which, although one of my favourite desserts, I had to admit wasn’t quite as nice as the lime cheesecake from the first visit.
